Breaking Bias: How Contemplative Practice Builds A World of Belonging

Join author Anu Gupta and Garrison Institute’s CBR Director Christa Tinari for this conversation around imagining a world without bias—and the methodologies by which we can dream it into reality.

The session will feature meditation, somatic exercises, and a lively discussion, followed by an interactive Q&A session. Anu will explore what it means for us to “break bias” in our own communities.

“Imagine how you would feel in a world without bias, where all human beings can truly be just as they are and unleash their full potential. We’re not asking what you think about it, or whether you believe it’s possible, but how you feel.” – Anu Gupta in his book Breaking Bias: Where Stereotypes and Prejudices Come From and the Science Backed Method to Unravel Themwith Foreword from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Please join us as we explore this unique opportunity to spend time with the author and gain insight into the themes of his work. If you wish to pre-order Breaking Bias, you may do so by clicking here.

Anu Gupta is a meditation teacher, bias expert, lawyer, scientist, and the founder and CEO of BE MORE with Anu, an e-learning company that trains professionals across corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors to advance DEIB and wellness by breaking bias. His work has reached 300+ organizations, training more than 80,000 professionals and impacting over 30 million lives. As a gay immigrant of color, he came to the work of breaking bias after almost ending his life due to lifelong experiences with racism, homophobia, and Islamophobia. The realization that bias can be unlearned helped lead him out of that dark point and inspired a lifelong mission to build a global movement for social healing based on principles of mindfulness and compassion. A peer-reviewed author, he has written and spoken extensively, including on the TED stage, the Oprah Conversation, Fast Company, Newsweek, and Vogue Business. Anu is a student of Buddhism and Kriya Yoga and a trained meditation and yoga teacher. He has spent over 10,000 hours on retreat at IMS, Spirit Rock, and Dharma communities in the US and Asia. He is a graduate of IMS/BCBS’s Exploring the Heart of Freedom and Spirit Rock’s Mindful Meditation and Yoga Teacher Training (MYMT) programs.
