Matthieu Ricard Photography Exhibit

Matthieu Ricard: Stormy sky and rainbow, Tibet, 2005Garrison Institute is very pleased to be exhibiting a collection of photographs by Matthieu Ricard, depicting dramatic mountain landscapes of the high Himalayas, in our ambulatory gallery. Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk, photographer, and author who has lived and worked in the Himalayan region for the last forty-five years, during which time he has extensively photographed the spiritual masters, landscapes and people of the Himalayas. Henri-Cartier Bresson said of his photographs: “Matthieu’s camera and his spiritual life are one, and from this spring these images, fleeting yet eternal.”

Ricard is the author of several books including The Monk and the Philosopher; The Quantum and the Lotus; Happiness: A Guide to Developing Life’s Most Important Skill; and Why Meditate? His books have been translated into over twenty languages. Since 1989, he has served as the French interpreter for the Dalai Lama. He is an active member of the Mind and Life Institute and is engaged in the research on the effect of mind training and meditation on the brain at various universities in the US and Europe.

He is also the author of the photography books Journey to Enlightenment, Buddhist Himalayas, Monk Dancers of Tibet, Tibet: An Inner Journey, Motionless Journey, and Bhutan: Land of Serenity.

The gallery is open to the public Mondays to Fridays, 9-5. The exhibit will hang into the fall.
