Roy Staab’s Wheel of Time

If you haven’t visited Roy Staab’s site-specific sculpture Wheel of Time on the Garrison Institute’s riverfront lawn, we recommend that you do. Made from bamboo collected from the grounds, the fine yet sturdy structure exemplifies Staab’s approach to environmental art, of which he is a leading practitioner. He strives to integrate his work seamlessly into its natural setting, enhancing and harmonizing with nature. Staab stayed in residence at the Institute during his construction of the piece. “I want to project the ephemeral in my artwork and I prefer the forces of nature to enhance and dismantle them as well,” says Staab. “I like the work when it is very perfect and interacts in nature in color and reflection. I document my pieces with photographs, but art is an idea and nothing in life can be held onto.”

Sculpture visitors are welcome during daylight hours, any day – park in the lot and head towards the river in front of the Institute’s front entrance.
