The US General Service Administration, as the largest commercial real estate owner in the country, plays a substantial leadership role in innovative building design, construction, and operations to reduce the government’s environmental footprint in cost effective ways. This talk focuses on two initiatives of the Office of Federal High Performance Green Buildings that aim to test, evaluate, and disseminate high impact, evidence based results and best practices that can be applied at the portfolio level. The first is GSA’s Deep Retrofit Challenge, a public-private collaboration intended to move toward net zero energy consumption in existing buildings using ESPCs to finance energy savings technologies and practices. The second initiative is the Research into Practice Knowledge Network that will deliver evidence-based practices to targeted audiences using diverse communications pathways and channels.
