Dr. Shahzeen Attari takes audience comments related to the subject of home, energy-monitoring devices and continues by considering reasons why individuals defect in social dilemma situations. She presents the findings of her own research on social dilemma situations such as taxation, monetary donation, blood donation, and green product purchasing. Dr. Attari notes that, the most prevalent reasons given for defecting in social dilemma situations include the ability to free-ride, the fear of being a ‘sucker,’ and a lack of confidence in the usefulness of action.
